Cello Map is an online resource for those who are interested in performing and writing contemporary music for cello. In a deliberate move away from compiling a catalogue of special effects, we aim to map actions onto sounds in a logical way; to provide information about how the cello works that serves the imagination of performers and composers.
We will introduce the online resource and describe how it can be used. The importance of reviewing the existing literature will be considered. Future directions for Cello Map and its function as a working resource will be discussed.
