Mapping Timbre
Projects Orchis/Pléione at the Geneva Music University
Grégoire Carpentier, Victor Cordero, Éric Daubresse
This article is the fruit of collaborative research at the Geneva University of Music and presents the results of two projects: Orchis and Pléione. The first aims at giving composers a simple and intuitive graphic interface that uses pre-recorded sounds in order to make swift, cogent suggestions as to how to orchestrate, and then simulates, edits and exports them as scores or sounds. The second project offers graphic representations – maps – of the aforementioned solutions, so as to be able to visualize and use the results more efficiently.
